Why doesn’t the replacement carpet strip fit into my product’s rail?

Confirm that the existing mat is indeed a C/S product. A photo of the profile of the mat emailed to the factory can determine the manufacturer of the mat. Remove existing tread insert and measure width. C/S carpet is 1 1/4″ wide. Most other competitors tread inserts are smaller.

Why does my mat expand and/or buckle in direct sunlight?

The mat requires 1/8″ for expansion. Confirm that the frames are properly installed, approved dimensions and that the frames do not show within the recess. Ensure that the recess is completely clear of dirt and debris. Trim a 1/8″ off of the end vinyl or a 1/8″ may need to be removed from actual width of mat.

The angle is a better filler bar. This frame would best be suited if it is installed adjacent to the exterior door so that the filler bar blends in with the threshold. Installation

What is the Traffic Direction dimension?

The traffic direction is the direction that you walk into a facility. It is the mat dimension that is equal to the distance you travel as you walk across the grid or mat. When reporting this dimension, it is best to designate the dimension with “T.D.” (ie. 10′ 6″ x 8′ 3″ (T.D.)). This is very important because many grids have a required traffic direction and will be less effective is not installed in the correct orientation.

How do I measure for my entry grid?

Proper measuring is done from inside edge to inside edge of the rough opening or wall-to-wall. If it is a surface mounted application the dimensions should be taken from outside frame to outside frame. In all applications, dimension should be taken in several places as construction is never completely square. If there is a large discrepancy in dimensions taken from side to side then side vinyl may be recommended to trim in field to accommodate inconsistency. Be sure diagram the area and measure any notch outs or diagonal cuts if present. If the area is odd shaped, it may require a paper template constructed. Report ALL dimensions taken. Always indicate traffic direction, doorways, and threshold types. In addition, please check door clearance at all doorways.

Do the entrance grids require adhesive?

No the entry grids do not require adhesive. The frame is adhered and/or anchored to the floor, then the grid sits inside of the frame so that it can be picked up to be cleaned underneath.

How do I install the Pipestem frame, which side does the leg of the pipestem frame go?

Do I have to recess the concrete subfloor to install Impact Specialties grid systems?

It is not necessary to recess the concrete subfloor to install Impact Specialties grid systems. Impact Specialties grid systems come in several thicknesses with various framing to create a seamless and safe transition between the grid and surround floor finishes. The installer will need to consider surrounding floor finish thickness and door clearance.

What height are crash rails normally mounted?

Crash rails are normally mounted at the impact point of damage creating object (carts, dolly’s, pallet jacks, etc.). If the damage is occurring from multiple sources at different heights, an industry standard is to mount the crash rail at either 6″ above finished floor or wainscot height between 30″ and 40″ above finished floor.

I have a door clearance issue, what do I do?

If you do not have enough door clearance for your desired product then you will need to contact the door manufacturer or installer to cut down your door to provide extra clearance. This is a common issue and easily solvable.

Why don’t the rails lay flat on my Pedimat/Pedigrid?

First reverse roll the mat, it may have a memory from being rolled up. If reverse rolling doesn’t correct the problem locate the crimps on the underside of the mat. The crimp will be a small divot in the aluminum rail approximately 6″ in from the end of the rail. Use a 1/8″ drill bit to drill out the crimp taking care not to drill through the top side of the rail. Drilling out the crimp will allow the rail to loosen up and lay flat. If drilling out doesn’t work, suggest that the installer run some 3/16″ masonry anchors through the carpet into the floor to hold the mat down until the first time that the mat is removed for cleaning. Normal pedestrian traffic will work the crimp loose and will allow the rail to lay flat.

Why don’t the rails align at the split?

Mats can be slid and adjusted within the recess to assist in alignment. Multiple mats are separate pieces and will move independently. If mats continue to move within the recess check for uneven substrate. Use velcro to help keep mats aligned or in very bad conditions, use masonry anchors right through the carpet into the substrate to keep mat aligned.

How do I cut the mat once in the field?

For straight cuts, use a circular saw with a carbide tip blade suitable for cutting aluminum. Use a jig saw for smaller notch cuts. Each carpet is pop riveted at each end. If a pop rivet was cut off during trimming it is important to re-pop rivet each carpet strip to avoid the carpet from contracting over time.

How do I trim the vinyl once in the field?

Vinyl has been provided oversized for fields trimming. Use a utility knife and a straight edge and score cut the vinyl several times to ensure a clean edge.

How do I use this Pipestem frame, which side does the leg of the pipestem frame go?

The leg of the Pipestem frame always goes under the carpet and the other side buts up to the grid being used.
